Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
Here are a few questions that we are frequently asked and happy to answer!!!
Q: Where are you located?
A: We are located in Ada, MI
Q: Can I just come to visit your hedgehogs and see them?
A: For the health and safety of our pets, we DO NOT allow visitors without placing a deposit first. A deposit shows us that you are serious about adopting a hedgehog. We are not a pet store or a petting zoo and we take the health and safety of our hedgehogs very seriously!
Q: How much are your babies?
A: Please check out our babies for sale page where you will find out our hoglets names, adoption fees, birthdays, and adorable pictures!
Q: How much does a hedgehog cost?
A: Prices vary by breeder, but as all things in life, you get what you pay for. Our hedgehogs range from $50(as retired adults) to $300 depending on color and age. We are USDA licensed and offer a health guarantee on all our hedgehogs, they all come with lifetime breeder support, a snuggle bag and a baggy of food. Yes other breeders may have hedgehogs available for a cheaper price, but ask about their health guarantees. If they have several babies available and are not licensed, that is a red flag! Anyone with more than 4 breeding female hedgehogs must be USDA licensed.
Q: Are hedgehogs good pets for kids?
A: They definitely can be! Please visit our page Are Hedgehogs Good Pets for Kids?
Q: Are hedgehogs easy to take care of?
A: They do have specific care needs which we discuss on our Care page.
Q: Are they prickly?
A: Yes, hedgehogs are prickly! However their quills are not sharp enough to draw blood. If the hedgehog is relazed, their quills will lay back and they will not feel sharp. If they're feeling nervous or startled they will raise up their quills and they will feel sharp. I would compare the feeling to a bristly hair brush. Even though their quills are sharp, they can NOT release them or shoot them like a porcupine.
Q: Are hedgehogs closely related to porcupines?
A: Surprisingly NO! Their closest mammal relative is actually a shrew!
Q: How long do hedgehogs live for?
A: Generally with good care, an adequate diet, and a properly heated cage, hedgehogs usually live 3-5 years. Princess Pear is our oldest girl that we have here, she will be 5 years old on February 8,2020.
Q: Can you ship our hedgehog to us?
A: We do offer ground transportation for our hedgehogs through a reliable transportation crew. Please speak with us before placing a deposit it you are interested in transporting your hedgehog. It takes a great deal of planning to provide a safe trip!
